Homer’s Odyssey is one of the most captivating Greek epic poems of all time, a tale of adventure, resilience, and fate that has enthralled readers for centuries. Now, director Christopher Nolan, fresh off the success of Oppenheimer, has set his sights on adapting this legendary journey for the big screen. Known for his mind-bending storytelling, massive-scale filmmaking, and love for practical effects, his version of Homer’s classic is set to be anything but ordinary. Universal officially announced the project on December 23, 2024, with a post on X: “Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand-new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.” 

Of course, a film this big needs an equally amazing cast, and so far, the lineup is nothing short of incredible. Matt Damon was the first name to surface, followed by Tom Holland, who joined in late October. Not long after, Deadline confirmed that Zendaya, had also signed on, along with Anne Hathaway, a familiar face in Nolan’s films, like in Interstellar. A few days after, Lupita Nyong´o was added to the cast list as well. In November, reports surfaced that Robert Pattinson was also in talks to join the project, reuniting with Nolan after their collaboration on Tenet, making this movie´s actor lineup one of the most striking and opulent cast list presented in a while. 

With Nolan at the head, IMAX technology, and a talented cast, The Odyssey is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and visually stunning adaptations of Homer’s epic ever made.
